Terry W. Johnson

Terry Johnson, age 64, of Bryant, SD, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021, at Avera De Smet Medical Center in De Smet, SD.  

Visitation will be at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant from 2-4 p.m. on Sunday, September 26, 2021.  

Private family graveside services will be on Monday, September 27, 2021, at Our Redeemer

Lutheran Cemetery in rural Bryant.  Rev. Randy Eisenbeisz will officiate. Honorary pallbearers will be Terry’s grandchildren.

Terry was born on February 17, 1957, in Watertown, SD, to Julian and LaVonne (Anderson) Johnson.  He graduated from Hamlin High School in 1975, and attended Lake Area Technical College in Watertown.

On August 12, 1978, Terry married Mary Ellen Anderson in Bryant, SD.  To this union, their children Wesley, Shannon and Becky were born.  He worked as a mechanic at Jul’s Service, worked as a city cop, and as a fire chief.  Terry owned TJ’s Tavern, worked as an EMT, and for the last 15 years he was an applicator in the Ag Division at Cenex.

Terry was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant.  He enjoyed riding motorcycle, camping, singing and his grandchildren’s sporting events.  He especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and bs-ing with his friends.  Terry had a very distinct laugh and people knew when he was around. 

Terry is survived by his children: Wesley (Jenica) Johnson of Bryant, SD, Shannon (Toby) Struckman, and Becky (Trevor) Johnson-Webb both of Watertown, SD;  8 grandchildren: Wyatt and Shelby Anderson, Terrance and Madelynn Johnson, Kurstin, Trenton, William and Tyler Struckman; his father, Julian Johnson of Watertown, SD; his brother, Jeff Johnson of Bryant, SD; his sister, Peggy (Steve) Namken of Hayti, SD; his significant other, Erlene Harty of Bryant, SD; her children: Teri Jo (Jamie) Anderson, Carly (Dale) Pietz, and Shelbie (Michael) Guerdet; her grandchildren; Tatum, Kinzye, and London Anderson, Angel, Maggie, and Quentin Pietz, and Chyanne and Bodhi Guerdet.

Terry was preceded in death by his mother, LaVonne Johnson, and infant sister, Julie.
