Steve Coyle was born on February 9, 1951, to Vernon and Doris (Zugschwerdt) Coyle in Minot, ND. He grew up in Henry, SD, surrounded by family and friends with his sisters, Rita and Sandra. Steve graduated in 1970 from Henry High School and then Lake Area Technical Institute as an automotive technician. He married LaVerna (Bernie) McGillivary on March 24, 1972, in Clark, SD. They resided in Henry, SD, before moving to Watertown. They had two children, Brenda and Brad. Steve was employed with Old Home Bakery in Watertown for 30 years before it shut down. He later began working for Codington County in various positions until he retired a few years later.
Steve was a loving father, grandfather and great-grandfather. Nothing made him prouder than watching his grandkids play sports and do the things they loved. His favorite past-times were fishing and hunting. He enjoyed their annual west river deer hunting and many trips to the Missouri River to fish. He and Bernie were awake before the sun all summer to find the best walleye spot he’d heard about from his buddies. He also enjoyed traveling and loved to map out the most scenic route to his destination.
Steve is survived by his wife, Bernie, and his children, Brenda (Terry) German of Watertown, SD and Brad and his fiancé, Lacey McMillan of Billings, MT; 8 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; his sisters, Rita Krentz of Bassett, NE and Sandra Hoftiezer of Watertown, SD; and his many nieces and nephews.
