Mavis was born on July 13, 1939 to Arthur and Ethel (Peterson) Schake in Bellingham, MN. Mavis grew up on their family farm. She met her husband Larry (Lawrence) Dale as classmates in the Bellingham School system where they both graduated in 1957. They were married on April 23, 1960 in Rosen, MN near Bellingham. Larry’s beginning into the masonry business led them to SD in 1960 where they have since called their home.
During their early years of marriage while Larry was establishing the Dale-Urevig Masonry business, along with his late business partner Arthur (Tony) Urevig, Mavis was busy as a housewife and at times had her “hands full” raising her two “Angels” (as she often called her boys). She was always very ambitious and stayed busy organizing and cleaning while most importantly being an outstanding wife and Mother. She enjoyed walking, bicycling and fishing. She worked for Peerless Cleaners performing dry-cleaning and also at Jenkins Living Center as a housekeeper. Over the last couple decades, she struggled with breathing difficulties from COPD which limited her physical activities to being a loving Grandma, playing cards: cribbage, whist, pinochle, and rummy, putting puzzles together, and listening to classic country music. Mavis spent countless hours on the phone visiting with dear friends and family. She loved Daniel O’Donnell music and was an avid Minnesota Twins and Timberwolves fan; rarely did she miss watching a game. She was always a very caring and selfless person. She was quick to change the subject or divert any attention away from herself whether it was about something she had accomplished or something she was challenged with. Mavis was much more interested and concerned about others’ lives rather than issues of her own.
She was predeceased by her parents, brothers: Howard, Earl, Orville, Harlan, Loren, Lyle and sister Viola.
Mavis is survived by her husband Larry of 61 years, her two sons Jim (Nanette) and Terry (Heide) of Watertown, SD, her sister, Lois (Wallace) Larson of Bellingham, MN, her four grandchildren: Jessica (Nick) DeYoung, Jana Dale, Sydney Dale, Jared Dale and her two great-grandchildren: Jade and Connor DeYoung all of Watertown, many in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.
