Mary Shervey, age 80, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Friday, July 30, 2021, at Prairie Lakes Hospital. Funeral services will be at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, August 5, 2021, at Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel. Pastor Lamar Whittemore will officiate. Chastity Whittemore will be the organist and soloist. The service will be livestreamed via our website.
Visitation will be prior to the service on Thursday, from 12 – 2 p.m.
Burial will be at Mt. Hope Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Jamey Allbee, Dan Brekke, Jeff Shervey, and Dan Sinning. Honorary pallbearers are Linda Boyken, Claudia Brunick-Spieker, Marsha Bullis, Betty Davidson, Karol Gruenberg, and Donna Kabeiseman.
Mary was born in Sisseton, SD on July 13, 1941, to Andrew and Lillian Sjoberg. She graduated from Wahpeton High School in Wahpeton, ND. After graduation, she attended ND State School of Science and then worked in the Twin Cities for a short time until she married Claire Shervey and moved to Watertown, SD. To this union, three children were born: Julie, Jeff, and Jeremy.
Mary worked in Reception and Claims at Stoudt’s Insurance Agency for 30 years. She also worked part-time at JC Penney and later at First Premier Bank until her retirement.
Known for being quiet and soft spoken, Mary had a kind soul and sweet spirit. She cherished her family and friends above all and generously helped anyone she was able to. She was a wonderful, caring mother who passed down her best qualities to her children. Mary enjoyed reading, sewing, cooking, and baking. She was truly a treasure to everyone who knew her, and she will be missed tremendously by those who loved her. Until we meet again in heaven, we will carry you in our hearts.
Mary is survived by her daughter, Julie (Dan) Sinning of Casper, WY, and her son, Jeff Shervey of Watertown, SD.
She was preceded in death by her son, Jeremy Shervey; her parents, Andrew and Lillian Sjoberg; her infant sister, Mary, and her brother, John Sjoberg.
