Marvel Davidson Obituary

Marvel Davidson, 99, died at Wheatcrest Hills Healthcare Center in Britton, SD, on September 17, 2022.  Her memorial service will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant, SD, on Friday, September 23, 2022, at 1:00 p.m. with Pastor Gary Anderson officiating.  Music will be provided by Deb Anderson as organist with Paul Ehrke as soloist.

Visitation will be prior to the services at the church on Friday.

Burial will be at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Bryant.  Honorary Urn Bearers will be Roger and Charlotte Davidson, Dean and Jean Steever, Virginia Cluts, Roberta Johnson, and Curtis and Carol Fagerland.  Active Urn Bearers will be Stuart and Rebecca Elgethun, Kari and Quinn Hill, and Larry Kothe.

I was born January 17, 1923, to Edward and Ida (Steever) Kothe.  I was baptized and confirmed at the former St. Pauls’s Lutheran Church in Bryant.

I attended country grade school and graduated from Bryant High School in 1941.  I was employed at the local weekly newspaper in the advertising department.

I was united in marriage to Milo Davidson in 1942.  We lived on the farm until 1949, when we moved to Bryant.

In 1955, we decided to venture on our own and purchased Harmel’s Market.  We operated Mike’s Market and served the community with groceries, fresh meat counter, locker service, custom butchering and picked thousands of pheasants for hunters for 38 years.

In 1993, we sold our business because of Mike’s health.  He passed away in 1995.  I continued to live in my own home until 2003, when I had surgery and diabetes and entered Parkview Care Center in Bryant.

In 2010, I moved to Wheatcrest Hills in Britton to be near my family.

I was a member of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, the Ladies Aid, a service group and circles.  I was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the church choir.

I was a member of the Bryant Community Club, President of the Bryant Senior Citizens, and Parkview Auxiliary.  I was also a past secretary of Parkview Board of Directors.  I enjoyed volunteering at Parkview Care Center.

I am survived by my loving family ~ one daughter, Rebecca and Stuart Elgethun of Britton, SD; one granddaughter, Kari Hill: and one great-granddaughter, Quinn Hill both of Chaska, MN; one sister, Mary Williamson of Longview, WA; one brother, Larry and DiAnn Kothe of Sioux Falls, SD; and one brother-in-law, Don Walgrave of Brandon, SD; several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

I was preceded in death by my parents; husband, Mike; grandson-in-law, Riley Hill; sisters: Alice Fredrickson, Joyce Limoges, Beverly Walgrave, and Doris Harris; brothers: Darrel, Glen, and Charles Kothe.
