John R. Read

John R. Read, age 72, of Badger, SD, passed away on Sunday, March 19, 2023, at his residence.  Visitation will be at the Johnson-Henry Funeral Home in Arlington on Monday, March 27, 2023 from 5-7 p.m.

John Randolph Read, 10-1-1950 - 3-19-2023.  John R. Read passed away Sunday, March 19, 2023, in his home with his dog Wren and multiple cats by his side.

He has held residence in Badger, SD for 20 plus years and will leave many friends and memories there behind. John was a very friendly and jolly man with the ability to light up a room with his presence and smile. John, also known to many as Randy and some Uncle Randy, spent many years behind the wheel of a semi-truck all over the U.S. making friends and family along the way. John had many stories of his travels and made his positive impressions on many as he traveled the highways. John was also a very proud member of the United States Marine Corp, serving our great nation from 1968 to 1974.  He was also a current member of the American Legion Post #260, Badger SD. 

Uncle Randy will forever be remembered by his “kids” Jim Read, Andrea Osthus, and the late Evans Read for all of the good times growing up and him always being there to help out. There are too many stories to tell and not enough time or room on the paper, these will be our memories and his legacy as time goes on. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Virginia Read, one brother Robert Read, one sister Jennifer Day, and one nephew Evans Read.

Grateful for having shared his life are his sisters:  Malinda Read (Bucky) Kay Jacobson, and Sandra Read. He will also be missed by his brother Jim Read (Berry) and will always have a special place with his nephew Jim Read (Marie) and niece Andrea Osthus (Paul).
