Jacqueline M Doggskin

Born to Steven Black Bear of Pine Ridge Indian Reservation and Edna Rose Yellow Lodge of Standing Rock. 

Jackie was 58 years old and spent the last few years of her life with her beloved daughter, Miranda Rose Redday (Silk), son in law, Roger Redday Jr, (whom she called Chunior),  grandchildren & nicknames as she called them by:  Tyson Tattoo, Levi David (bebi) Amelia Rose Silk (motor mouth),  Mazie Grace (Mazzie Gace), Juney Joy (Chuney Choy) and her precious little ‘Cheppa Boy’ aka Baby Roger Redday the 3rd.

Jackie lived a very long, arduous life. From being the 2nd oldest of 8 children, Jackie grew up being the caretaker of her little siblings who are/were Raymond, Carleen, Jerry, & Stephanie. Jackie also has three other siblings whom she also got to know, thanks to social media, and they are: Nathan, Ronnie and Meredith. So altogether there are 4 boys and 4 girls of the Steve & Edna BlckBear union. 

Jackie grew up in various places as their childhood was unstable. She talked about having fond memories of Custer, Manderson, and Fort Yates, ND, where they went to live in the student dorms after their father had passed away. At the age of 17, Jackie met and married Steven James Silk and from this union had 6 children. 5 girls and 1 boy, with Miranda being her eldest as she like to call her (my oldest)…….

Jackie attended Standing Rock High school where she was a boys basketball cheerleader, and excelled in Reading and Writing. Then later after having children, Jackie attended the United Tribes Technical College and obtained a degree in Secretarial Science. 

After divorcing Steven, some years later, Jackie then Married Delnoe Doggskin, whom is also no longer a part of this world either. 

As I write this, I think about all the hurt and pain Jackie has endured, from child abuse, to domestic violence, and not being able to raise her children, Jackie turned to alcohol to numb the pain. 

She had a long life of alcoholism. But in 2015, Jackie started getting very weak and could no longer defend herself from the abuse from her other daughters, so Jackie turned to her daughter Miranda and therefore they were able to find forgiveness and rekindle their mother/daughter relationship. 

This is when Jackie frequented Watertown quite often and it has become her 2nd home. 

Jackie was very close with her brothers Jerry and Raymond, as well as her own mother, but over the past few years, she lost her mother in 2019, and her brother Jerry in 2020. Raymond is now the only one left in Fort Yates, ND.  Jackie enjoyed going home to visit her brother Raymond and staying with him in their mom's house. The two were quite the pair. You can hear them always joking and laughing about anything, you can say it got them through tough times throughout the years.  Jackie got to live the last 10 months of her life here in Watertown as probably the best time in her life because she was sober. 

Sober from mind altering substances and alcoholism. 

Jackie got to be the mother and grandmother she was meant to be and it was the most beautiful experience ever watching her go from hopeless and hurt to happy and beautiful. So yes, Jackie had a very tough life, but in the end, she knew Jesus and enjoyed going to church by herself on Sundays and visiting with the congregation during potluck and fellowship time at Hope For Life Community Church, as well as participating in the ‘Celebrate Recovery’ group.

Jackie also liked to sit in the corner of her daughter's yard, and listen to her pow wow music, while playing games or doing crossword puzzles. She liked to do crossword puzzles because she said it made her brain think, so she found pleasure in doing those. Jackie also enjoyed taking care of her 2 year old grandson whom she like to call ‘Cheppa Boy’ Cheppa boy loved his grandma, and she sure did like feeding him because he was such a scrumptious eater and she would just smile ear to ear when watching him eagerly climb into his own high chair so he could eat the food grandma for him.  Jackie also loved her little granddaughters, Mazie & Juney, and always got a kick out of them and their crazy behavior and would oftentimes call them ‘Miranda’s wrecking crew’ haha 

Jackie would say how they reminded her so much of her 6 kids when they were little. She would reminisce and also say how they reminded her of her own siblings when they were little children as well. 

So again we can find peace in knowing that Jackie lived the best 10 months of her life here in Watertown and we would like to thank the church and many others who were a part of her sober living journey here before she departed this world. We will miss her humor and her presence, most of all, her daughter will miss the daily phone calls when her mom was away back at home in Fort Yates. Let us comfort and pray for her brother Raymond will miss her and the times they spent together, as he will be going home alone after this. They were basically twins as they were very close growing up. And for Nathan and Meredith, may they cherish the conversations they held over social media.

We will always be reminded of her, wherever we go and whatever we do. And she will live on in us here in Watertown.
