Military funeral honors will be conducted by Codington County Post #17 of the American Legion, Watertown, and the Funeral Honors Team of the U.S. Air Force.
Burial will be at Prairie Mound Cemetery in Butler, SD at a later date.
Arden “Art” Edward Buhler was born on August 17, 1961, in the Day County Hospital, Webster, SD, to Clifford and Lois (Hanson) Buhler. He resided with his family in Butler, SD, until 1974 when the family moved to Milbank, SD.
Arden graduated from Milbank High School in May of 1979. He joined the Air Force in 1980 and attended basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas. His military service included being stationed at Nellis Air Force Base, Las Vegas, NV; RAF Lakenheath, Suffolk, England; RAF Bent Waters, England; and Moody Air Force Base, Valdosta, GA. He ended his military service by honorable discharge as a sergeant in May of 1990. During his tenure he received various awards both individually and with his units.
After leaving military service, Arden returned to South Dakota. He spent time in Sioux Falls working for a concrete cutting company. Later Arden moved to Watertown, SD, where he attended Lake Area Technical College in the welding program. He worked as a welder at Angus Industries until a medical condition precluded him from continuing work as a welder. He then worked in maintenance and free-lance contracting work. Arden liked to “shoot the breeze” and was never short of information. He also liked to “fix” things, and was always willing to give a hand when someone needed something.
Arden is survived by brothers: Dennis (Kathy) Buhler of Holmquist, SD, and Ron Buhler of Milbank, SD; and sister, Jan (Bill) Marlette of Sioux Falls, SD; nieces, Lori (Jesse) Monnens and Stacy (Ben) Bachmann, and nephews, Tim (Mallory Shields) Marlette and Dan (Jaelin Beachy) Marlette.
Arden was preceded in death by his parents, Clifford and Lois (Hanson) Buhler.
