Crawford Funeral Chapel, Inc. was established in 1986 by Bill and Susan Crawford. In 1991, a visitation chapel was purchased in Hayti, SD, and in 2009, a dining area was built on to the Watertown chapel. The addition of a dining area provides families the opportunity to have the funeral and luncheon at one location.

Chad and Kristi Osthus purchased the business from Bill and Susan Crawford in 2015 and the name was changed to Crawford-Osthus Funeral Chapel, LLC & Cremation Services. We pride ourselves on being locally owned and in serving families of all faiths, offering pre-planning, traditional services, memorial services and cremation choices. Together, Chad Osthus and Bill Crawford have over 60 years of experience. Let them walk beside you and guide you gently through one of life's most difficult times. 

Roger became interested in being a funeral director as a teenager. He has always been incredibly attentive to the needs and emotions of others. His compassionate nature drew him to this work. After high school graduation, he began working in a funeral home. After his experiences, he quickly knew that becoming a Funeral Director was a good fit for him. He decided to pursue a degree in this field. Since 1972, Roger and Luanne have managed two family-owned funeral homes in De Smet and Bryant, S.D.

Their son, Doug, earned his degree as a Director and then joined the family business in 2005. Both father and son have a reputation in the community for being attentive and compassionate Directors. Their goal is to gently guide families through the process of planning a funeral.

The Osthus Funeral home is friendly, clean and well staffed. Details and personal attention to funeral planning, pre-needs and monuments are all part of the services in this family business. They strive to go above and beyond standard expectations. Osthus Funeral Home was purchased by Chad & Kristi Osthus in 2021. Chad and his staff work hand in hand with Roger and continue the same professional service you have always come to expect.
